I am a writer, photographer, arts educator and occasional consultant. I’ve written plays, articles, fiction and literary non-fiction. Much of what I write about involves the excavation of hidden, silenced or forgotten stories. My favorite place to live and work is on the edge, in those places where seemingly separate entities join, blend, bump up against each other and sometimes collide, because that is the absolutely best place to create something new. My passion for the last several years has lived at the intersection of art and healing. I’ve worked with children who have experienced abuse and other forms of trauma, initiated and led an artist-therapist cross-training program called Fusions, and presented at conferences on The Healing Power of Art. I’ve also spent a lot of time connecting art and learning, working in inner-city schools and with refugee and immigrant populations. I’ve presented at conferences, consulted and conducted teacher training in a program I developed called Creative Writing for Second Language Acquisition.
